Belagavi-based Prabhakar Basavprabhu Kore, who is a former chairman of KLE Society, has been selected for the Padma Shri award in the field of literature and education.

The 78-year-old educationist has led KLE Society for over 40 years. The society was running 30 educational institutions in 1985 when he took over. Now, it runs 316 schools, colleges and hospitals with over 18,000 staff and 1.45 lakh students.

Its hospitals have over 3,000 beds and provide tertiary specialist treatment to patients in various fields of medicine.

“I am very happy to get the award. I will continue to work in the fields of education, medicine and culture,” he said.

KLE Society members congratulated him for the award. His contribution to the areas of literature, education and promotion of health research has been recognised by the award committee.

He has played an important role in advancing the cause of education as he believes that education is a powerful instrument of social transformation.

In addition to education, he has made notable contribution to the promotion of literature and cultural activities.

His role in imparting the values of ethics, culture and humanism to the younger generation through value-based education is highly commendable.

His vision that education should not be confined merely to employment but should also contribute to social development, nation-building and healthcare advancement has earned widespread appreciation.

The Padma Shri Award conferred in recognition of Dr. Kore’s achievements stands as an honour to his lifelong service and it is expected to inspire future generations.
