75-year-old gets three years RI in POCSO case

A special POCSO Court in Kadapa on Wednesday sentenced a 75-year-old man to three years’ rigourous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,000 for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Annamayya district.

The POCSO case was registered at Rayachoti Urban police station following a complaint from the victim’s mother on August 10, 2023. The accused, Shaik Haroon Basha, a resident of Rayachoti, was arrested, after which a thorough investigation was conducted.

The court found the prosecution’s evidence sufficient to prove the offence and pronounced the sentence on Wednesday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Dheeraj Kunubilli appreciated the investigating officers and the prosecution team for effectively handling the case. He reiterated that crimes against women and children would be dealt sternly.
