At The Hindu Lit Fest 2026, former CJI DY Chandrachud responded to a question on the sensitive issue of handling of stray dogs in India, which got the courts involved. He says it’s an issue that needs to be dealt with with compassion and that extreme measures simply won’t work. He feels decisions have to be taken at a policy level, but cautions that top courts should not be called upon at all times to make these calls.
