Police diverted traffic on Saturday to prevent congestions on the national highways with people returning to workplaces at Chennai and Hyderabad following Sankranti festival.

Traffic was moving slowly between Vijayawada-Chennai and Vijayawada-Hyderabad at Garikapadu, Kaza, Kalaparru and other toll gates as many private vehicles and travel buses queued up to go to Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

Huge number of passengers were seen at the bus and railway stations due to the festive rush. Police arranged pickets and additional staff were deployed on the national highways and toll plazas to avoid traffic congestions.
