The ‘ITPB Metro Skywalk’, an elevated pedestrian corridor connecting the Pattandur Agrahara metro station on the Purple Line directly to International Tech Park Bangalore (ITPB) and Park Square Mall, was inaugurated on Friday to improve last-mile connectivity.

The skywalk is 320 feet long and is elevated 24 feet above the road. It links metro services with the business park and the adjoining mall and is expected to benefit over 55,000 professionals working in ITPB. It is also aimed at eliminating the need to cross busy roads and reduce commute times, improve pedestrian safety, and encourage greater use of public transport.

ITPB said the skywalk would improve accessibility not only for office-goers but also for residents and shoppers visiting the mall and surrounding business parks, thereby easing traffic congestion around the tech hub.

BMRCL managing director J. Ravishankar, in a statement, said the project demonstrated the benefits of public–private collaboration. “The skywalk is a good example of effective public–private collaboration that strengthens last-mile connectivity and enhances the overall commuter experience. Pedestrian linkages between metro stations and major activity hubs are essential to strengthening last-mile connectivity, improving the commuter experience, and encouraging the use of public transport, all of which support sustainable urban mobility in Bengaluru,” he said.

Yellow Line train derails

Meanwhile, a Yellow Line train reportedly derailed inside the Hebbagodi depot on the morning of January 15, damaging a few sleepers and a section of the third rail.

The incident is suspected to have occurred owing to a signalling fault while the train was entering the main line.

BMRCL has not issued an official statement on the incident. However, officials said that services on the Yellow Line were not affected and that all seven trains are operating as per schedule.
