The Rait Sena Karnataka has filed a contempt of court petition in the High Court of Karnataka against the State government on January 9 for failing to implement the HC directive to begin crop registration and procurement process a month in advance. Addressing presspersons in Hubballi on Friday, Guru Rayangaouda, State spokesperson of Raita Sena, stated that the farmers had been demanding the opening of a permanent procurement centre to ensure a fixed price for their crops. As no action was taken by the government for several years, the farmers filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Bengaluru High Court in 2021. The High Court found the farmers’ demands to be justified and, on May 5, 2025, issued a clear directive to the government ordering that the registration and procurement process must begin at least one month before harvest at both district and Hobli levels across the State, he said. However, the officials failed to follow the order during both kharif and rabi harvests. Hence, they were forced to file a contempt of court petition in the Bengaluru High Court on January 9, Mr. Guru said. At least from now onwards, the government and concerned departments should implement the High Court orders related to the registration of agricultural produce, he demanded. Mallanna Alekar, vice president, Mahesh Navali, Taluk Gramin Sanchallak, and Mutlanna Patil, Uttar Karnataka Sanchallak, were present.
