The Fire and Rescue Services rescued a 50-year-old man, who accidentally fell into an 80-feet-deep agricultural well at Peedampalli village near Sulur on Friday.

According to the Fire and Rescue Services, Palanisamy, a farmer from Peedampalli, was rescued from the well in his farm in a swift operation.

Sources said the mishap occurred when Mr. Palaniamy was standing close to the edge of the well on Friday morning. The soil on the edge caved in and he fell into the well after losing his balance. Lacking swimming skills and no steps available to climb up, Mr. Palanisamy struggled to stay afloat.

After being alerted about the incident, a team from the fire station at Sulur led by Leading Fireman C. Rajagopal rushed to the spot. The team lowered a safety net tethered with two ropes and the farmer got onto it. The man was pulled out from the well and he did not suffer any injury. Mr. Palanisamy was rushed to a hospital for a medical examination after the rescue.

Local residents lauded the fire brigades for their swift response and the rescue operation that saved the farmer’s life.
