Surprised to find a tag around the bird’s leg, the villagers called the police emergency helpline number 112. Police officers who reached the village found that the bird was a wild eagle from the Melaghat forest area of the neighbouring state of Maharashtra. The Forest Department officials of Maharashtra had put a tag to track its movements. However, the bird that flew for a distance, was probably tired and hungry as it could not find a suitable prey. Vijayapura police contacted the Maharashtra police and forest officials. The bird has been kept at the Jevur social forestry division enclosure.
