Colombo, Jan. 14: A food crisis in the Batticaloa District is feared as the result of the “Lady McCallum” disaster. Already the Government Agent has instituted a system of control. But there are no early prospects of supplies of foodstuffs being sent to relieve the situation. A vessel left Colombo last night for Trincomalee. But she will not call at Batticaloa; and no other vessel has been arranged for during the month. The land route from Trincomalee to Batticaloa is circuitous, and the cost of transport prohibitive.
