The Gandhigram Rural Institute (Deemed to be University), Dindigul, and The Ministry of Innovation and Technology, Ethiopia, have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for bilateral cooperation in areas of research related to sustainable rural development, technology transfer, and innovation.

State Minister for Research, Technology Transfer, Innovation and Indigenous Knowledge, Ministry of Innovation and Technology, Ethiopia, Bayissa B. Badassa, said the MoU was a pathway between the two countries to ensure new innovation for sustainable rural development.

Principal Scientific Adviser, Ministry of Innovation and Technology, Ethiopia, Krishnaraj Ramaswamy said through the MoU the vision of the both the governments should become a reality to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The bilateral collaboration will be in emerging fields such as renewable energy, electric vehicle, environmental chemistry, nano technology, new material composites, internet of things, artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, quantum computing, food and rextile technology, organic agriculture, low-cost technologies and cultural and heritage studies, he said.

Vice-Chancellor of GRI N. Panchanatham said global partnerships are key to achieving sustainable rural development. Collaborative MoUs enable sharing of knowledge, technology, and resources. Together, nations can implement innovative solutions for resilient rural communities. The MoU covers joint research and academic exchange between India and Ethiopia.
