Fishermen participating in the boat race organised by Fishermen Welfare Committee near Madanooru village in Prakasam district on Wednesday. | Photo Credit: KOMMURI SRINIVAS The Fishermen Welfare Committee conducted several activities including boat race, swimming and rangoli-making competition for the fishers ahead of Sankranti festival, at Madanuru Peddapalem village of Kothapatnam mandal in Prakasam district on Wednesday. “As many as 14 teams took part in the boat race competition, with 28 people taking part in total, two in each boat. Fishermen from Madanuru and surrounding villages came here,” said committee district secretary Pamanji Ramesh. “Fisherfolk from Swarnandhra Pattapupalem, Pedha Pattapupalem, Eethamukkala Palle palem, Vajereddy Palem, Madanuru Palepalem, Madanuru and other fishing villages enthusiastically participated in the event,” he added. Team of Brahmaiah and Srinu won the first prize of ₹15,000, while second prize of ₹10,000 went to Nagababu and Ramulu. Hari Babu and Kondala Rao bagged the ₹5,000 third prize.
