RAJESH This is good news for the revellers coming to this port town for Pongal holidays as pleasure boat rides have resumed in the boat jetty beyond Roach Park. Thoothukudi Corporation established the boat jetty at the estuary south of Roach Park on South Beach Road a few years ago for operating pleasure boat rides. However, the boat jetty became defunct soon even though it was attracting decent crowd during weekends, holidays and the festival seasons. After gathering dust for a few years, the boat jetty has been revived with the participation of a Tenkasi-based private firm, which has deployed kayaks and pedal boats here. After Mayor Jegan Periyasamy and Commissioner C. Priyanka inaugurated the pleasure boat services on Wednesday, the tourists enjoyed the boat rides. While ₹200 is charged for 2-seat pedal boats for 30 minutes, ₹300 is the charges for hiring 4-seater pedal boats for similar duration and ₹200 is collected for kayaks. Aqua cycling is to be introduced shortly.
