Three youths died and another sustained injuries after two motorcycles collided near Benjipur Road in Araku Valley of Alluri Sitharama Raju district late on Tuesday night. The deceased have been identified as Killo Mosya (23) of Kotha Bhallaguda, Killo Ganga Babu (25) of Patha Ballaguda, and B. Niranjan (24) of Chinnalabudu. All of them were residents of Araku mandal. According to Araku Valley police station Sub-Inspector G. Gopal Rao, the tragic incident occurred when two motorcycles collided head-on while coming from opposite directions near Benjipur. Over-speeding was suspected to be the cause of the accident. Two youths were riding two motorcycles each at the time of the accident. One youth died on the spot, while the other two sustained critical injuries and were shifted to Araku Valley Hospital. Later, they were referred to King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam, but succumbed to their injuries on Wednesday morning. Another youth, identified as S. Mohan Rao (21), who was admitted to Araku Valley Government Hospital, is currently undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, the bodies of the three youths were shifted to a hospital for postmortem examination. In view of the possible cases of over-speeding and incidents of driving under the influence of alcohol during the Sankranti festival, the Araku Valley police have set up temporary checkposts at various locations to ensure road safety.
