Chennai Corporation celebrates ‘Samathuva Pongal’

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) celebrated ‘Samathuva Pongal’ across all 15 zones of the city on Wednesday (January 14, 2026).

Pongal was prepared at GCC office entrances with new earthen pots with raw rice and jaggery, and sugarcane. Colourful kolams were drawn at office premises, and floral decorations were arranged for the occasion. Traditional art forms including kummi and parai were performed.

Various competitions such as uri adithal, tug of war, kolam drawing, musical chairs, and running races were organised, and prizes were given to winners. Gift hampers were also distributed to frontline workers.

Elected representatives, zonal officials, standing committee chairpersons, zonal committee chairpersons, councillors, prominent persons, officials, and employees took part.
