Artist-curator Bose Krishnamachari has resigned from the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF). He was the president of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale and member, Board of Trustees of KBF.

Mr. Krishnamachari has cited “pressing family reasons” for his resignation, said Venu. V., chairperson, KBF, in a statement on Wednesday (January 14, 2026).

Mr. Krishnamachari has not made any comment on the matter, though his decision, which comes amid the ongoing edition of the biennale, has triggered speculations.

Mr Krishnamachari is one of the founders of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, and served as the co-curator of the maiden edition of the biennale, along with artist Riyas Komu, in 2012.

“He has been one of the most influential figures in the growth and evolution of the biennale. The foundation has initiated the process of identifying an eminent person with high credentials in the art world to serve as president of Kochi-Muziris Biennale,” Mr. Venu said in the statement.

In 2018, Mr. Komu resigned from all management positions linked with the biennale following allegations of sexual misconduct.
