NEW DELHI

Two more persons were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly pelting stones at policemen during a demolition drive near the Faiz-e-Ilahi mosque in central Delhi’s Turkman Gate earlier this week, taking the total number of arrests to 20, the police said.

The police identified the arrested individuals as Mohd. Imran and Mohd. Adnan.

“Above two stone pelters have been arrested, bringing the number of arrests in Turkman Gate stone pelting to 20,” said DCP (Central) Nidhin Valsan. He added that the police are currently examining the role of social media influencers in the incident and will take action once their involvement is established.

The 20 accused have been booked under Sections 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 121 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from duty), 191(2) and 191(3) (rioting), 223(A) (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 3(5) (joint liability) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984
