The Delhi police on Tuesday said it has arrested around 280 people associated with various gangs in a 48-hour operation.

‘Operation Gang Bust’ was carried out ahead of Republic Day celebrations to deter any threat, a police officer said.

According to the police, more than 9,000 personnel were on the ground during the operation. “We conducted raids at over 4,000 hideouts of major and minor gangs spread across Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh,” said Pramod Khushwaha, Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).

As a result of this intensive crackdown, 690 FIRs were registered in 48 hours, and more than 854 persons were arrested under various sections of the BNS, Arms Act, NDPS Act, Delhi Excise Act, Gambling Act, and other provisions of law. Of these, 280 arrests were in connection with organised crime cases, involving gang members, the officer said.

Among major gangs, the highest number of arrests was linked to the Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu gang, with 14 arrests, followed by the Jitendra Mann alias Gogi gang, with 13 arrests. The Kala Jathedi-Anil Chhippi gang saw nine arrests.
