A man was hacked to death by a group of armed men, allegedly over an old grudge, within the limits of the Bandepalya police station on January 12. The deceased has been identified as Shabbir, 29, a resident of Hosa Road. His father is a retired Assistant Sub-Inspector who served in the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP). According to the police, the incident occurred at around 11 p.m. on the Mangammanapalya main road. Shabbir ran a scrap shop near his residence and had gone to Victoria Hospital earlier in the night to visit a relative undergoing treatment. While returning home with his friends in an autorickshaw, their vehicle was intercepted near a petrol bunk. According to the police, eight to 10 assailants, who arrived in autorickshaws and on motorcycles, blocked the auto Shabbir was travelling in and forcibly dragged him onto the road. He was then assaulted with deadly weapons in full public view, sustaining grievous injuries. Shabbir succumbed to his injuries on the spot, following which the attackers fled. The probe revealed that Shabbir and the accused knew each other and had previously been involved in a quarrel over a trivial issue, which later escalated into a grudge. A murder case has been registered at the Bandepalya police station, and multiple teams have been formed to trace the accused. The police are verifying CCTV footage from the area to identify and apprehend the suspects.
