Bengaluru police have booked a valet driver of an eatery in J.P. Nagar for allegedly killing a stray puppy in an inhumane manner in the early hours of January 9. The accused has been identified as Nepal Kiran, a resident of Puttenahalli. The incident occurred around 1.45 a.m. on January 9, near J.P. Nagar 7th phase, and was captured on a nearby CCTV camera. The footage reviewed by The Hindu shows the accused smashing the puppy against a compound wall. He then goes on to stamp the puppy’s neck until it dies, according to the complainant. Following the incident, Gopinath and Krishnamurthy, feeders and caretakers of stray dogs in the area, informed South Bengaluru Cares, a group working against animal cruelty, which filed a complaint with the police. They also submitted the video as evidence. Puttenahalli Police have booked Kiran under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which deals with mischief by killing or maiming animals. A police officer overseeing the investigation told The Hindu that notice is yet to be served to the accused and that he will be summoned for questioning soon. However, Bengaluru Cares representatives reported the disappearance of a few more puppies from the street.
