As part of the first phase of a dense tree planting initiative by Tiruchi City Corporation covering an area of 30,000 square feet, 350 native tree saplings were planted on a site at Park View Road in Ward 18 on Monday.

The greening drive, led by Corporation Commissioner L. Madhubalan and Ms. Jayashree, Assistant Engineer, Ward 18, is being held in collaboration with the Deanery of Extension Activities, PG Research and Department of Physics and Department of Botany, Bishop Heber College.

V. Anand Gideon, Dean of Extension Activities and head, Department of Botany, provided scientific guidance for the dense plantation model adopted at the site.

It is supported by the Young Indians (YI) – Climate Action Vertical, under the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Students and volunteers from National Service Scheme, YI and other extension clubs participated in the plantation drive.

Over 1,000 diverse tree saplings to increase biodiversity in the selected site will be planted over the coming weeks.
