Several parts of the Cauvery delta region received moderate to heavy overnight rainfall and light to moderate showers on Tuesday.

Lodging of samba paddy crop that was in in the harvest stage was reported in some parts of the delta. “Though the rain was not heavy, the mid-term samba crop ready for harvest across the region has lodged and cannot be harvested immediately,’ said Cauvery Dhanapalan, president, Tamil Nadu Vivasaya Sangankalin Kootamaippu.

Velankanni in Nagapattinam district recorded the maximum rainfall of 13 cm during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday. Tirupoondi and Thirukuvalai in the district received 10 cm each.

The following were the chief amount of rainfal recorded in other parts of the delta region during the same period (in cm): Sembanarkoil, Vedaranyam, Sirkali, Karaikal and Mayiladuthurai 8 cm each; Tharangambadi, Thalaignayiru, Kollidam and Lower Anaicut 7 cm each; Nagapattinam, Kodiayakarai, Aduthurai, Manalmedu, Suthamalli Dam (Ariyalur), Manjalaru, Kodavasal and Jayamkondam 5 cm each; Thiruvidaimaruthur, Pattukottai, Thiruthuraipoondi, Valangaiman, Thenparanadu, Nannilam and Peravurani 4 cm each; Perambalur, Mimisal, Pullambadi, Tiruvarur, Kumbakonam, Ariyalur, Tiruchi, Needamangalam, Pandavaiyar Head, Madukkur, Ponmalai, Samayapuram, Padalur, Adiramapattinam, Tiruchi Town, Budalur, Thuraiyur and Avudayarkoil 3 each; and Nandhiyar Head, Sendurai, Manamelkudi, Pudukottai, Kallakudi, T.Palur, Lalgudi, Labbaikudikadu, Mannargudi, Tiruvaiyaru, Kallanai, Karur, Tiruchi Airport, Ayyampettai, Thirumanur, Ponnaniyar Dam, Ayinkudi, Vathalai Anaicut, Neivasal Thenpathi, Echanviduthi, Mayanur, Thirukattupalli, Kudimiyanmalai, Veppanthattai, Orthanadu, Manapparai, Krishnarayapuram and Malaiyur 2 cm each.

Overcast and cold weather conditions continued to prevail across the region.
