Stalin on Tuesday inaugurated through videoconferencing a new ice cream plant constructed by the Tiruchi District Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union on the Aavin premises at Kottapattu on Tiruchi-Pudukottai Highway. Shortly after the inauguration, Collector V. Saravanan, Mayor M. Anbazhagan and senior officials visited the Aavin premises and inspected its functioning. C. Muthumari, General Manager, Aavin Tiruchi, explained the features of the plant and its importance to meet the customers’ demand and increasing the revenue of Aavin. It was built at an estimate of ₹.21.57 crore under the Dairy Processing and Infrastructure Development Fund. The plant had a capacity of producing 6,000 litres of ice cream per day. It was also capable of producing 10,000 litres of curd, lassi and other products. An official said the plant would initially produce curd, and the production of ice cream would begin within a few days. The ice cream plant would be adding value to Tiruchi Aavin. With the inauguration of the plant, the official added that Tiruchi Aavin would be in a position to market almost all types of dairy products on its own without depending upon other sources. The ice cream plant was equipped with an ingredient preparation section, refrigeration units, freezing equipment, and packing unit. The plant would be equipped to produce all types of ice creams with different tastes and flavour. Its bouquet of dairy products will include kulfi, candy, buttermilk, and lassi. Cattle feed plant The Chief Minister also declared open a cattle feed manufacturing plant of Aavin at Pudukudi in Budalur union, established at an estimated cost of ₹50 crore with financial support from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. The 300 tonne capacity unit would cater to 12 districts in the region, according to an official release.
