The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State unit has extended support for the move to officially change the name of the State from ‘Kerala’ to ‘Keralam’. In a recent statement, BJP State president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said the party would fully support all the steps taken by the State government to officially maintain and protect the name and identity of ‘Keralam’, which is closely associated with the Malayalam language heritage of the State. The Kerala Legislative Assembly, in a unanimous decision on June 24, 2023, passed a resolution proposing a constitutional amendment to change the name of the State from ‘Kerala’ to ‘Keralam’.
