Tiruppur Corporation has identified six sites as temporary storage points of wastes accumulated along roadsides.

In a status report submitted to the High Court, Commissioner of Tiruppur Municipal Corporation M.P. Amith said that 100 % source segregation was being ensured through deployment of 60 ward level officers and 12 monitoring officers.

Additionally, 10 Sanitary Inspectors and 2 Sanitary Officers from neighbouring Corporations have been deputed to Tiruppur to streamline solid waste management activities.

The Corporation, he informed, had established a total of 28 Micro Composting Centres (MCC) of which 20 were fully functional, processing approximately 100 metric tonnes of wet waste daily (at a rate of 5 MT per unit). Five MCCs were currently undergoing necessary repair and maintenance works. These units are expected to be brought back into full operation within the next few days, the status report said. The remaining 3 MCCs were being converted into Resource Recovery Centres (RRC).

As directed by the High Court, Phase 1 of the Iduvai site is being utilised for the storage of segregated dry waste, the second phase (Phase 2) is being rapidly prepared to expand storage capacity.

Stringent measures have been taken to strictly enforce the Standard Operating Procedures regarding the ban on plastic. During December, 2025, a total of 752 raids were conducted to curb the storing, selling, and issuing of single-use plastics, resulting in the seizure of 7,554.5 kg of banned plastic items. The violators were penalised with spot fine to the extent of ₹2.9 lakh. A sum of ₹3.57 lakh was collected for unauthorised and illegal dumping of waste across all four zones during December.

To support these initiatives, the Corporation has, so far, issued 1,61,117 awareness pamphlets to households and commercial establishments. Additionally, campaigns were conducted in all schools within the Corporation limit, sensitizing more than 25,000 students on the need of waste segregation, the status report said.
