Arrangements have been made at two spots in each zone with temporary collection points. Residents have been urged to deposit discarded clothes, furniture, plastic items, paper waste, and other recyclable materials at the designated collection centres instead of burning them during the festival. The dry waste collection points had been established on College Road in Ward 14 and Gandhi Road, near Zonal Office in Ward 03 under Zone I; TVS Tollgate in Ward 47, and Manalvarithurai Arasamaram bus stop in Ward 49 under Zone II; Kalkandar Kottai Thidal in Ward 44 and Kattur Main Road Junction in Ward 38 under Zone III; SIS Apartment at Edamalaipatti Pudur in Ward 57 and Mangamma Salai in Ward 62 under Zone IV; and Puthur High Road near Wall of Happiness in Ward 26 and Dakar Road in Ward 10 under Zone V. The civic body had deployed light commercial vehicles for door-to-door collection of dry waste from households and commercial establishments, with two vehicles assigned to each zone. About 50 sanitation workers have been engaged in the special drive, which will continue until January 14. Discarded beds, mats, pillows, old clothes, blankets, tyres, and plastic material are being collected. The waste is segregated and sent to cement factories for recycling, an official said.
