The District Police have registered 729 cases related to crime reported under various police stations from January 2026 to March-end, Raichur Superintendent of Police Arunangshu Giri has said.

Releasing a video sharing information there on Monday, Mr. Giri said that police have taken action against illegal activities, illegal sand extraction and other crimes and booked cases under the relevant sections of BNNS and other Acts, including NDPS Act.

“A total of 105 cases have been registered against gambling activities, 172 cases against Matka, 22 cases against betting, 18 cases against cock fighting, 13 cases under the Essential Commodities Act, 207 cases against illegal sand extraction and 121 cases for Excise violation, of which 23 cases are related to illegal hooch selling (832 litres of hooch have been seized) and 71 cases against ganja peddling, while 11 accused have been arrested and 4.35 kg of ganja has been seized from them,” he explained.

Expressing serious concern over minor girls going missing and some being lured, the Superintendent of Police appealed to parents to counsel girls below 18 and take precautions against their elopement after being lured.

In 2026, as many as 26 missing cases have been reported. Of these, 19 were minor girls and seven minor boys who went missing.

The police, however, have solved 10 of these cases. Of the 10, six minor girls and four minor boys have been found. At present, 16 cases, of the 26, are under investigation. Of the 16, 13 are minor girls and three minor boys, the officer said.

Parents should take additional care to prevent elopement of their children, he added.

The Superintendent of Police also said that cricket betting has now become anti-social menace. From January to the end of March, 26 cases have been registered. Seventy accused have been arrested and ₹80,000 in cash and 20 mobile phones have been seized.

He added that after the IPL series began, 16 cases have been registered, 57 accused arrested and ₹70,000 in cash and 13 mobiles seized.

The younger generation shouldn’t be involved in such activities and spend valuable money on betting, which is against the law, he said.
