About 70 sovereigns of gold jewellery and 20 kg of silver items were reportedly stolen from a pawn shop-cum-residence at Vasantha Nagar in Singanallur Police Station limits, during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The complainant, Ramesh Kumar (48), had gone with family members to a temple at Vellalore for taking part in the Mahashivathri event when unidentified persons had gained entry into the building by breaking open the lock. Police arrived at the scene of crime with a forensic team, which has determined fingerprints. The movement of a sniffer dog indicated that the criminals had fled in a vehicle stationed at a distance. The investigating team has collected CCTV footage from the vicinity.
