The Udupi town police arrested Abdul Rauf, 26, of Shivalli village in Udupi taluk, and seized 7.59 grams of MDMA worth ₹15,000 from him.

In a press note, the Udupi police said Rauf was found selling MDMA by sitting in an autorickshaw, which was parked at a public place in Karamballi Ramabettu of Shivalli village. The police said they also seized ₹3,100 — which he earned by selling narcotic drugs — as well as the autorickshaw. A case was registered against him for offence under Sections 8 (c) and 22(B) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Absconding accused arrested

Meanwhile, the Belthangady police arrested Ravindra Charmady, who had failed to appear before the court for 36 years. He was apprehended on January 6 in Nalluru in Karkala taluk of Udupi district. He was produced before the jurisdictional court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

For his failure to appear in the criminal case registered in 1990, the jurisdictional court had issued non-bailable warrants against Charmady and put the case under the list of Long Pending Cases, the police said.
