KARIMNAGAR/KHAMMAM The Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (MCK) recorded a voter turnout of 62.98% in the municipal elections held on Wednesday. Around 2,14,486 voters of the total electorate of 3,40,580 had cast their votes. The keenly fought election to the MCK, where the ruling Congress, BJP and BRS are locked in a high-stakes electoral battle, witnessed a moderate voter turnout. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay exercised his franchise in the elections. Among the municipalities in Karimnagar district, Jammikunta, Huzurabad and Choppadandi recorded a voter turnout of 79.81%, 81.47% and 78.76% respectively. A voter turnout of around 69.32% was recorded in the Ramagundam Municipal Corporation in Peddapalli district. The officials, however, could not confirm the final polling percentage figures as of 7 p.m. In Jagtial district, Dharmapuri municipality recorded the highest voter turnout at 75.16% followed by Raikal (74.96%), Jagtial (69.60), Korutla (69.47) and Metpalli (69.21). Sircilla and Vemulawada municipalities recorded 77.55% and 77.99% respectively. In Khammam district, the voter turnout stood at Yedulapuram (85.35), Wyra (83.6), Sathupalli (77.44), Kalluru (86.97), and Madhira (77.88). Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka cast his vote in Madhira town. The Kothagudem Municipal Corporation in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, recorded a voter turnout of 74.53%. The ruling Congress party, CPI and BRS are locked in a keen battle to clinch the key civic body in the State’s coal belt. The turnout in Aswaraopeta and Yellandu urban local bodies stood at 76.26% and 68.56% respectively.
