Inspector General of Police, South Zone, Vijayendra Bidari on Saturday said the police had obtained surety bonds from more than 600 criminals from the district ahead of the Assembly elections.

He was talking to reporters during vehicle check near Vasavappapuram on Tirunelveli – Thoothukudi four-lane national highway.

Mr. Vijayendra Bidari said that police personnel, along with Central forces, static and flying squads, were strictly implementing the poll code and taking due action against violations. While precautionary measures were being taken against notorious criminals, over 600 surety bonds had been obtained from the offenders from Tirunelveli district. Those violating the bond and undermining public peace would immediately be detained.

He appealed to the public to alert the police in case of any model code violations in their area.

On the recent murder of a Plus Two female student in Thoothukudi district, he complimented the Thoothukudi District Police led by Superintendent of Police C. Madhan for scientifically cracking the case and arresting the culprit. “The scientific evidences which nailed the suspect will be produced in the court for his early conviction,” Mr. Vijayendra Bidari said.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tirunelveli Range, P. Saravanan and Superintendent of Police V. Prassannakumar were present.
