As many as 55 families belonging to Nakkala community from Alluru village of Kothapatnam mandal in Prakasam district have sought pucca houses. They staged a protest in front of the main gate of the district Collectoratein Ongole on Monday, demanding the construction of permanent houses on the house sites allotted to them and the provision of basic amenities. Girijana Praja Porata Samithi president P. Satyanarayana gave a representation in this regard to District Collector P. Raja Babu during the PGRS meeting. Later addressing the media, he said, “Earlier in 2008, the government had allotted 0.02 cent land to each family. However, their thatched huts in low-lying areas have been washed away 4-5 times during floods.” “These families are currently living in terrible conditions on the road near Kotha market in Ongole. After the National ST Commission recently directed the district officials to provide suitable housing for them, the officials informed that ₹2 crore would be required to build houses in those areas,” he said, urging the government to construct permanent houses in Alluru or any other area.
