Unidentified persons broke into a jewellery and pawn shop near Singanallur in Coimbatore and stole 48 sovereigns of gold jewellery and about 500 grams of silver ornaments, police said. The shop, located opposite the Coimbatore Corporation East Zone office on Trichy Road, was locked on the night of February 15 for Shivaratri. The theft came to light when the owner returned early the next day. The Singanallur Crime Branch police station registered a case. CCTV footage showed a masked man breaking open the lock. Police have launched a search for the suspect.
