As many as 40 government school students from across districts will be going on a five-day educational tour to Malaysia on Monday (February 9). They are expected to leave at 10:15 p.m. School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi met and congratulated them on Monday morning. The students had won the State-level literary forum, quiz, children’s film, science forum, sports competitions, and Kalaithiruvizha competitions of 2024-2025. A total of 155 students had won the State-level competitions for co-curricular activities of which 40 students are going on the tour. They will be accompanied by two teachers and two Chief Education Officers, a press release said. During the demand for grants for School Education Department for the year 2022-2023, the Minister had stated in the Legislative Assembly, “At the school level, co-curricular activities such as club activities, book reading, excellence in fine arts, sports and science will be encouraged. Students will be taken on educational tours to famous places at the global and national or State levels. This project will be implemented at an estimated cost of ₹3 crore.” While the students will indulge in sightseeing in Malaysia, they will also visit two universities in an effort to expose them to higher education opportunities. “They will visit the University Malaya in Kuala Lumpur which is renowned for its arts programmes. Further they will interact with the 15 government school students, who are now studying in Albukhary International University in Malaysia. These students are under scholarship from the State to study abroad,” said an official from the School Education department.
