University of Mysore Vice-chancellor N. K. Lokanath on Wednesday said 3,000 students from the University had enrolled in SWAYAM courses from 2019 till date.

He was speaking after inaugurating an orientation on UGC MOOCs SWAYAM courses for second semester students here. The programme was organised by SWAYAM-Digital Learning and monitoring cell of the University of Mysore.

The Vice-chancellor urged students to enrol in SWAYAM courses to enhance their skill sets across various disciplines. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)–SWAYAM is an open online platform that offers courses across various disciplines, taught by subject experts and experienced professionals.

“”The SWAYAM platform aims to provide free, flexible and quality education to all. It plays a significant role in democratising education by enabling access to high quality and skilful learning resources for learners worldwide,” he explained.

In the era of technology, knowledge and information can be accessed from across the world within seconds, making the learning process easier and faster. The Indian Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) platform–SWAYAM has brought remarkable changes to the Indian higher education system. It provides students and learners with the opportunity to enrol in courses of their choice without the constraints of a physical classroom. The platform also supports self-paced learning, Prof Lokanath stated.

The VC said that the role of MOOCs through SWAYAM is significant in bridging the gaps and reducing distance in access to higher education. Registrar Evaluation N Nagaraja, Prof H S Kumara, consultant, SWAYAM Courses were present.
