Nearly 300 hatchlings of Olive Ridley turtles were released into the sea at Gacchakayalapora in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district on Saturday (March 14, 2026). District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar stated that the Forest Department personnel have conserved nearly 50,000 Olive Ridley turtle eggs from four breeding grounds—Nela Revu, Vasala Tippa, S. Yanam, and Sacramento Island—during the ongoing nesting season. The eggs are being protected through the in-situ method, while special teams have been deployed at the rookeries to monitor both the eggs and hatchlings at the breeding and nesting sites.
