A total of 25 Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) cameras installed on the Mysuru-Bengaluru National Highway have been capturing various traffic violations committed by motorists. According to a written reply by Home Minister G. Parameshwara to a question by MLC Madhu G. Madegowda in the Legislative Council. the ITMS cameras automatically captured traffic violations committed by vehicles using National Highway 275, and sent penalty-related details along with violation information to the registered mobile number of vehicle owners via SMS. The cameras are enabled with automatic number plate detection technology. They recorded various violations, including speeding, driving in the wrong way, no-entry violations, not wearing seat belt, and lane discipline violations. “The system records the vehicle number involved in the violation along with the vehicle image, location, and time details,” the Minister informed the Council. The ITMS cameras have been installed at various points in Bengaluru South district (Ramanagara), Mandya district and in Mysuru city. While sharing the details of traffic violations, Mr. Parameshwara said a total of 19.27 lakh offences had been recorded during 2024 and 2025. More than 90% of penalties yet to be paid However, more than 90% of the penalties imposed on motorists for violating traffic rules are yet to be paid. The number of traffic offences registered during 2024 was 13,83,861, and the amount of penalty added up to ₹93.75 crore The number of offences registered in 2025 came down to 5,493,175, and the amount of penalty added up to ₹40.10 crore. The penalty amount collected for offences committed during 2024 was ₹8.38 crore while the amount collected during 2025 was ₹4.30 crore. Out of the total fine of ₹133.86 crore in 2024 and 2025, the amount collected was ₹12.69 crore while the remaining ₹121.16 crore is yet to be paid.
