Twenty-four persons were rescued from bonded labour at Olapalayam near Modakurichi in Erode district on Sunday (March 8, 2026) and a man from Maharashtra was arrested in connection with the case. According to police, the accused – Yuvraj Shinde – had brought a group of people from Madhya Pradesh last November and engaged them in sugarcane harvesting in the area. The workers were not paid wages and were not allowed to leave the place freely.
