From parents pushing children in strollers to families accompanying elderly members on wheelchairs, the final day reflected the wide cross-section of visitors that the exhibition continues to attract year after year. According to the Exhibition Society, the turnout this year touched a new high. “The total visitors this year reached about 22.5 lakh, crossing the previous year’s figure of 20.7 lakh,” said B.N. Rajeshwar, secretary of the Exhibition Society. The scale of the crowd was evident even half a kilometre from the venue, with traffic congestion building up well before Nampally. “Since it is a Sunday and the last day of Numaish, I thought I would bring my family here and spend some time together,” said Kiran Reddy, who had come with his wife and two children. Yes, it is extremely crowded, but this is what Numaish feels like,” said Seema, a schoolteacher from Malakpet. While shopping was not on everyone’s agenda, the air was thick with the aroma of kebabs, roasted corn and jalebis, drawing long queues at food stalls across the grounds. Shopkeepers said the rush intensified over the final two days. “There is a mix of customers. Some come looking for discounts while others feel these prices will not be available later and buy without bargaining,” said Farhan, who runs a Kashmiri clothing stall.
