The Socialist Party (India) has announced its support for the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the upcoming Assembly elections. Addressing a press conference on Saturday, State president Kayikkara Babu and national vice-president C. P. John stated that a UDF victory is essential to ensure the continued existence of a secular, socialist, and democratic Kerala. The “ádjustment politics” being played by the CPI(M) to win the Assembly elections, through the unholy nexus with communal forces, is an indication of the depths to which the party has declined. According to them, the Sangh Parivar, with the support of CPI(M), is attempting to promote communal politics in the State, as it has been doing in the northern States. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, whom they described as close to the Sangh Parivar, has become a protector of their interests. Will the Chief Minister openly declare that the CPI(M) does not need the support and votes of communal forces, including Sangh Parivar, they asked. CPI(M) has made a mockery of both Janatha Dal parties, who are the constituent parties of LDF, by taking over their seats and fielding their candidates as its own. The stance adopted by both parties, who are continuing to be a part of the LDF despite such treatment, is a blot on socialist traditions, they added. The result of the Assembly elections will be a verdict against the 10 years of Pinarayi Vijayan’s rule , during which time corruption and extravagance ruled, unemployment reached an all-time high and health, education and agriculture sectors suffered major setbacks, they added.
