The Cuddalore district police have put in place elaborate security arrangements ahead of the Kaanum Pongal celebrations on Saturday. The annual celebration attracts huge crowds to the Silver Beach in Cuddalore, among other public places. A total of 2,000 police personnel, including Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, personnel from Armed Reserve, Tamil Nadu Special Police personnel will be deployed across Cuddalore district. Police personnel will also be deployed at places of public congregation. According to Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar, as many as 84 temporary check-posts have been set up across the district. The police will be conducting special drives during the festival nights to curb bike racing and rash driving. He emphasised the importance of celebrating festivals responsibly and urged public cooperation to ensure safe and accident-free festivities. The SP also warned that motorists engaging in such activities would face severe consequences, including vehicle seizure and strict legal proceedings.
