While resolving 2,321 matrimonial disputes, the Lok Adalat succeeded in reuniting 328 estranged couples through the efforts of mediation. | Photo Credit: File Photo A State-level Lok Adalat conducted across all courts in the State by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) on March 14 has reported settling over 55.85 lakh cases in a single day. The Lok Adalat disposed of 2.61 lakh cases, which were among the cases pending in various courts, and 53.23 lakh pre-litigation cases. The total settlement amount reached through amicable resolution of the litigations is ₹3,248 crore, with major contributions from the settlements of cheque dishonour cases, motor accident claims, and execution matters. Notably, over ₹1,029 crore was settled in cheque bounce cases alone. Also, 2,626 cases that were pending for over five years, including an 18-year-old partition suit involving a 93-year-old litigant, were amicably settled in the Lok Adalat. 3,330 cases involving senior citizens were also resolved.
