The teams belonging to women’s police station, EAGLE, GRP and RPF producing the accused and the ganja seized from them at GRP office in Ongole on Saturday. | Photo Credit: HANDOUT Police reportedly seized 15kg of ganja from two passengers travelling on Ernakulam Express (Train no. 18189) at Ongole railway station on Saturday. The accused were identified as Prithvi Raj Baag from Ambadar village of Rayagada district in Odisha and V. Jagadish from Mettur village of Ranipet district in Tamil Nadu. According to the police, extensive inspections were conducted by the teams of women’s police station, Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE), Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at the station with an aim to eradicate marijuana and drugs, under the supervision of Prakasam District Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Harshavardhan Raju. While checking suspicious parcels, passengers’ bags and other items in the train coaches and surrounding areas of the station with the help of police dog Roxy from Ongole to Kavali, the teams found 15kg of ganja in the bags of two passengers and seized it. Both of them were taken into custody and handed over to the GRP officials for further investigation. The SP warned that legal action will be taken against those who transport, sell or use ganja or other intoxicants. He asked the public to immediately contact the toll-free number 1972, dial 112, or the police WhatsApp number 9121102266 if they have information on ganja peddling. He informed that the details of those who provide the information will be kept confidential.
