GIRI The Andhra Pradesh Legislature Sports-2026 will be conducted over three days, beginning on Tuesday (February 24, 2026), with the objective of fostering team spirit and camaraderie among public representatives, said Sports Authority of A.P. Chairman A. Ravi Naidu. Addressing the media at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) stadium in Vijayawada on Monday (February 23) Mr. Ravi Naidu said that the competitions would be held in 14 categories, including cricket, kabaddi, volleyball, tug of war, athletics, badminton, chess, and carroms. A total of 156 MLAs and MLCs will participate in the event, to be inaugurated by Assembly Speaker Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu on Tuesday. The competitions will be held at IGMC and Dandamudi Rajagopala Rao Indoor Stadium in the city, Mr. Ravi Naidu said. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, HRD Minister N. Lokesh are expected to participate in the inaugural event. In cricket, six teams, under the captaincy of TDP State president Palla Srinivasa Rao, Ministers Nadendla Manohar,(Civil Supplies), Satya Kumar Yadav (Health), Kolusu Parthasarathy (Housing), Kollu Ravindra (Excise ), and K. Atchannaidu (Agriculture). Earlier today, the 87th board meeting of SAAP was held, during which key decisions were taken regarding the welfare of athletes, coaches, and the overall development of sports in the State. The A.P. Sports Academy being established in Visakhapatnam has been named Kodi Rammurthy Academy, the one in Kakinada has been named NTR Academy, the academy in Tirupati has been named after Karanam Malleswari, and the one in Guntur has been named Acharya Nagarjuna Academy. During the meeting, the SAAP also decided to submit proposals to the State government to increase the honorarium of coaches holding diploma from NIS (National Institute of Sports). Non-NIS Diploma coaches will be recognised as junior coaches and paid an honorarium of ₹21,500, the board decided.
