Even as 147 gram panchayats in Mysuru district have been declared ‘TB-free’, authorities have stepped up efforts to sustain the momentum through awareness campaigns and preventive measures.

A district-level rally was organised on Tuesday to mark World TB Day, aiming to step up public awareness on tuberculosis elimination. The event also saw the distribution of nutrition kits to infected persons and the recognition of ‘TB-free’ gram panchayats.

The rally, jointly organised by Mysore Medical College and Research Institute and the Indian Medical Association, was flagged off by Dr. Puranik, Divisional Joint Director of the Department of Health and Family Welfare.

The procession began at SP Office Circle and culminated at the DHO Office (Vaidyara Bhavan), where the formal programme was inaugurated by Dr. Mallika, Divisional Additional Director of the Health and Family Welfare Department.

WHO consultant Dr. Rajeev, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Kumaraswamy, Dr. Nayana from JSS Medical College, and Dr. Sudarshan, Head of Medicine at FAME Medical College, were present.

Certificates were distributed to ‘TB-free’ gram panchayats in collaboration with the Karnataka Health Promotion Trust. Nutrition kits were provided with the support of the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement to infected persons.

This year’s TB Day theme was: ‘Yes! We can end TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver’, highlighting the need for collective action in the fight against tuberculosis.
