Officials of the Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) Hyderabad Rural Unit seized 12 tonnes of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice valued at approximately ₹4.2 lakh during a surprise check near Koheda village under Hayathnagar police station limits in Rangareddy district on Thursday morning (February 12).

Acting on credible information, the team intercepted a DCM vehicle which was transporting the PDS rice from Hayathnagar to Zaheerabad. The consignment was suspected to be diverted illegally.

Three arrested accused have been identified, including Pawar Jitu and Pawar Vijay, both stated to be residents and managers of double bedroom houses in Hayathnagar, and Mohammed Shabbir, a resident of Zaheerabad, who was driving the DCM vehicle at the time of interception.

The accused were handed over to Hayathnagar police along with the seized rice. The Civil Supplies Officer has been informed to initiate criminal proceedings and register a case under Section 6A of the Essential Commodities Act against those involved.
