The response time of 108 ambulances in handling road traffic accident (RTA) emergencies in Coimbatore district improved to 7.41 minutes in 2025 from 8.13 minutes in 2024.

Other emergencies handled by the ambulance service, which is operated by EMRI Green Health Services (GHS) under the Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project, clocked an average response time of 8.43 minutes in 2025, improving from 9.08 minutes in 2024. Response is the time taken by an ambulance to reach the place of emergency after receiving the alert from the centralised call centre.

According to EMRI Green Health Services, its fleet of ambulances handled a total of 82,861 emergencies in 2025, out of which 15,380 were trauma cases (vehicular), 6,889 trauma (non-vehicular), 9,011 pregnancy-related cases, 3,740 cases of accidental poisoning, 1,344 cases of animal attack, 2,950 cases of assault and 264 cases of burns among others.

Ganesh G., Programme Manager of EMRI GHS for Coimbatore and the Nilgiris, said 62 ambulances and four first responders (two-wheeler) are operational in Coimbatore district.

A total of 6,594 cases of cardiovascular conditions, 1,945 cases of stroke/cerebrovascular accidents, 3,579 cases of epilepsy, 3,165 cases of fevers/infections, 1,684 neonatal cases, 6,726 respiratory-related cases and 1,277 case of diabetes were also among other emergencies handled by the fleet in the district.

S. Jayakumar, regional manager of EMRI GHS for Coimbatore region, said 108 ambulances handled 18,07,083 cases of emergencies across Tamil Nadu in 2025. Out of these, vehicular trauma cases stood at 3,42,784 and non-vehicular ones were 1,29,344.
