Minister for Roads and Buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Saturday (March 14) said that a double-decker corridor from LB Nagar to the Hayathnagar Radio Station is being planned at an estimated cost of ₹940 crore.

Speaking to the media after launching development works in Hayathnagar, he said that the Musi rejuvenation project would benefit future generations. “Nearly 40 lakh people are suffering because of polluted waters. Their hardships must be understood with compassion,” he said.

Pointing out that major rivers like the Ganga and Yamuna are being cleaned under national programmes, the Minister questioned why similar efforts to rejuvenate the Musi River should face opposition. While acknowledging that around 10,000 families may be affected, he assured that the government would provide proper rehabilitation and alternative arrangements.

Speaking on the proposed double-decker corridor, he said that it would feature a Metro Rail line and a National Highway on the upper deck, while the lower deck would have vehicle underpasses to ensure safe movement of local traffic.

The Minister added that the region is poised for major infrastructure growth, including high-speed rail connectivity linking cities such as Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Pune. Efforts are underway to take up the 10-lane expansion of the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway, with tenders likely to be finalised next month after necessary approvals from the Centre, he added.

Earlier, the Minister laid the foundation stone for widening the Hayathnagar road from two lanes to four lanes at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore.
