Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday said that the DMK government had allocated ₹600 crore in the last five years for sports infrastructure in Tamil Nadu as against ₹380 crore during the 10-year-rule of the AIADMK. Tamil Nadu would soon emerge on top in sports as in other sectors, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin said at an official function organised in Pudukottai. Distributing Kalaignar Sports Kits to youth and welfare assistance to other beneficiaries, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin said the DMK government had taken steps to encourage sports among youth. The scheme of providing Kalaignar Sports Kit to youth in village panchayats last year was expanded to urban local bodies. Sportspersons from Tamil Nadu excelled in national and international events bagging medals bringing laurels to the State and to the country. Incentives were being provided to such sportspersons. A total of 120 sportspersons of the State, who had bagged medals at the national and international levels, were provided employment in government service in Tamil Nadu under the 3% sports quota. In the coming days, 150 more sportspersons would be provided employment in government service, he said. A total of 141 mini stadiums had been constructed in Tamil Nadu in the last four years. The DMK government had been ensuring economic freedom and rights of women besides making sure educational development of students, he said. Ministers S. Regupathy and Siva V.
