The waterbody has a storage capacity of 21 crore litres. A boating facility constructed at a cost of ₹60 lakh at Thangal Lake Park in Ambattur Zone of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) was inaugurated for public use on Friday (March 4, 2026). The facility has been established at the park located on Madanangkuppam Main Road of the Ambattur zone. Thangal Lake covers 47,434 sq.m. within a total land extent of 64,749 sq.m. and has a depth of 15 feet. The waterbody has a storage capacity of 21 crore litres. Civic infrastructure created at the site includes a 1,168-m compound wall, a 3,582 sq.m. footpath, and a green zone covering 8,853 sq.m. An open and play area measuring 4,376 sq. ft. has also been developed. A 490 sq. m. space has been designated for women’s fitness and yoga activities, along with a reading area. The boating facility includes two boat jetties and four pedal boats. Safety arrangements include two rescue boats and 40 life jackets. A total of 10 toilets have been built.
